Work in full swing at Manukuttai STP

The UGD project is implemented at ₹ 149.39 crore

Work has begun to connect the main pipelines that carry sewage from residential areas and commercial establishment with the sewage treatment plant (STP) at Mankuttai.

The Corporation is implementing the ₹ 149.39 crore under ground drainage (UGD) in the city for over eight years under three packages. While work under package I and III is in progress, the Corporation is looking for completing the Package II which is half done. Four STPs were completed, Vellakuttai (capacity of 13 million litres a day), Mankuttai (35 MLD), Vandipet (44 MLD) and at Anaimedu (6 MLD).

Officials said that main pipeline was laid from Leigh Bazaar, Arisipalayam and Three Road as work is on to connect it with the STP located in Mankuttai. They added construction of chamber work is in progress and will be completed in one month’s time. Officials said that so far ₹130.82 crore were spent for the project, and added that additional funds would be sought from the government for completing the scheme.
