Woman succumbs to burns

A. Rabiya (40), wife of a PWD officer, who reportedly attempted to end her life after a quarrel with her husband, died here on Saturday.

According to the Mahalingapuram police, she lived with her husband Asraf Ali in the PAP Quarters in Pollachi. She had doused herself with kerosene and set her ablaze after her husband left the house on Friday.

She was taken to the Pollachi Government Hospital and referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where she died on Saturday.

Man held

The Gomangalam police arrested M. Manikandan (30) of Nallampalli for allegedly trying to sexually harass a 24-year-old married woman of the village in her house on Saturday.

The police said that he beat her when she raised an alarm and tried to escape from him. The man was booked under Sections 294(b) (using abusive language), 323 (causing hurt), 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act and arrested.

Plus Two students injured

Three Plus Two students, who had just completed their board examinations, were injured when the bike that they rode hit an electric post near Vellakinar on Thudiyalur-Saravanampatty Road on Saturday.

The Thudiyalur police said that M. Vishnu (18) of Thudiyalur, M. Arunkumar (18) and R. Arun Kumar (18) studied together in the Government Higher Secondary School at Vellakinar. Vishnu was riding the bike while the other two were seated pillion.

Vishnu was admitted in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. His friends suffered major injuries on their face and head and were admitted in a private hospital in the city.

Vishnu was booked under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.
