The Anti-Land Grab Cell of the Coimbatore City Police on Saturday arrested a 41-year-old woman, V. Kanakamani, on charges of involvement in a land-grab case. According to police sources, G. Dhanalakshmi, 60, a resident of Thomas Street, had purchased four cents of land at Kurichi near here in 1989.
Anees, a lawyer, and two land brokers Robert and Samy alias Anand had allegedly induced Kanakamani, a resident of Singanallur, to impersonate Dhanalakshmi. The trio offered to pay Rs. 10,000 to Kanakamani.
Following this, Robert and Samy struck a deal with Selvaraj and the four cents of land, belonging to Dhanalakshmi, was sold in May with Kanakamani forging Dhanalakshmi’s signature.
However, Dhanalakshmi came to know of this and lodged a police complaint. While Kanakamani has been secured, Anees, Robert and Samy were still absconding. A hunt had been launched to track them down. The Anti-Land Grab Cell of Coimbatore City Police registered a case and invoked Sections 120 (b) (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document).
Held on theft charge
Police on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old man, Ananthan alias Kumar, on charges of stealing Rs. 65,400 from a fuel outlet where he was working.
According to police sources, Ananthan had joined work at the fuel outlet on Thadagam Road in August by furnishing a forged ration card. On September 11, he had left the outlet and allegedly fled with the day’s collections. The fuel outlet manager had lodged a complaint at the R.S. Puram Police Station.
