Winds of change

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - COIMBATORE:

With sustained winds since Tuesday, wind energy generation in the State has started going up.

On May 19, nearly 10 million units of wind energy were consumed and 189 MW was generated last evening. Two days ago, just 1.92 million units of wind energy were consumed in the State and generation was just 21 MW. The State has installed wind energy capacity of 7,395 MW.

Wind energy producers are expecting better evacuation this year as the National Institute of Wind Energy will provide wind energy generation forecast for the State. It is already doing so for four wind energy sub-stations. They pointed out that the State government had withdrawn power cut in the State from June last year when the wind season started and 70 million to 80 million units of wind energy was consumed in the State every day during the wind season (May to September).
