Irula woman killed by wild elephant near Kotagiri

A woman was killed by a wild elephant near Kotagiri on Thursday.

According to the District Forest Officer, the Nilgiris North Soundarapandian, the victim Nagammal (46) who belonged to the Irula tribal community was working in a tea garden at Kil Coup in Konavakorai late in the afternoon when she was attacked by the elephant.

With grievous injuries she was taken to a hospital in Coimbatore where she died late in the night.

Stating that as per government rules, arrangements will be made to give her family a compensation of Rs. Three lakhs, Rs. 25,000 had been given as immediate relief to the family, he said.
