A group of four elephants entered Kempanur village near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district from the nearby forest region during the late hours of Monday and caused panic in the region for some time.
Crops destroyed
According to eye witnesses in the region, the four roamed around the village for some time and damaged a few doors and structures before entering a farm where they destroyed several crops.
Upon receiving information about the animals that had strayed from the forest area, officials from the Forest Department reached the spot and drove the elephants back into the forest.
In another incident, two elephants from the forest region near Mathipalayam region caused extensive damage to a banana farm before returning to the forest in the early hours of Tuesday.
