On Sunday morning, volunteers gathered at Saibaba Colony to take part in a sapling planting programme organised by Ver, a non-governmental organisation.

According to T. Vasanth, the NGO’s founder, about 1,400 saplings were planted in different parts of Coimbatore – Saibaba Colony, Malumichampatti, Ganapathy, and Othakaalmandapam.

Neem, tamarind, peepal and beech saplings were planted. The organisation would maintain the saplings for six months. It will fix tree guards and apply fertilisers during these months. Contact numbers of blood donors would be displayed on the tree guards, he said. Most of the volunteers on Sunday were college students. David, one of the volunteers from Chennai, said he came to know about this event through Facebook.
