The Chinnar and Kozhikamudhi camps have 22 elephants in total

Vinayaka Chathurthi was celebrated at Chinnar and Kozhikamudhi elephant camps in Top Slip, Anamalai Tiger Reserve, on Friday.

Pujas were performed during the occasion and ‘Pongal’ and other delicacies were given to the 22 elephants in these two camps.

The elephants in the camps were mostly orphans abandoned by their herds and found roaming in the wild. While the youngest in the camp was just around three months old, the oldest pachyderm was nearly 70 years old.

Rajiv K. Srivasatava, Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director of ATR, V. Ashokan, District Forest Officer, Pollachi, and S. Arockiaraj Xavier, Forest Ranger, Ulandy Forest Range, took part in the festivities.
