Residents from six villages surrounding Agalar in the Nilgiris petitioned the District Collector on Monday urging her to order the closure of a government-run Tasmac liquor shop.

The residents of Thuneri, Agalar, Kothumudi, and other villages, stated that a liquor shop (number 8402), was located on a highway, and near government schools. The residents claimed that the shop posed a risk to motorists and locals, as people using the highway could stop at the shop and consume liquor before deciding to drive. Moreover, they fear that young women and children could be at risk of being harassed by tipplers who drink at the liquor shop.
