Valangulam to get a facelift

October 31, 2014 09:47 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:43 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

Valangulam will not be what it is today, if the Corporation goes ahead to implement its plan once the people there are allotted houses in Ammankulam.

According to Corporation Commissioner S. Ganesh, as soon as the civic body facilitates the allotment of houses, the first step will be to demolish the houses built there. The Corporation will then fence the 20-odd acre abutting the water body to prevent further encroachment. The bund will be strengthened and saplings planted. The Corporation may then convert it into a park. Four toilets will also be constructed.

As per the Commissioner’s instructions, the Corporation will also install two sewage treatment plants at the mouth of two channels to treat and then let out the treated water into the tank, says A. Lakshmanan, Executive Engineer, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme. Finally, the civic body will build a walkers’ path and execute other beautification work.

This is also expected to increase the storage capacity of the tank, which gets surplus water from the Periyakulam.
