To decongest traffic on Brooke Bond Road, the police have opened the right entry underpass of Avinashi Road flyover for vehicles playing to Ukkadam, Town Hall and Marakkadai.

To decongest traffic on Brooke Bond Road, the City Police have opened the underpass leading to Marakkadai which was kept closed for some time.

Now, vehicles plying from Kikani School junction to reach Avinashi Road, Marakkadai and Goods Shed Road can take the underpass of Avinashi Road flyover.

While proceeding from Kikani School junction, motorists can take the left underpass to reach Avinashi Road and the right underpass to reach Marakkadai and Goods Shed Road.

Meanwhile, vehicles coming from Marakkadai and Goods Shed Road will not be permitted to take a left turn at the underpass to reach Brooke Bond Road.

The underpass from Marakkarai to Brooke Bond Road, also known as Dr. Krishnasamy Mudhaliar Road, was closed when one-way traffic system was introduced on the busy stretch to decongest traffic in 2015.

“The new arrangement was made to reduce traffic congestion on Brooke Bond Road. Two-wheelers, autorickshaw and light motor vehicles are permitted through the underpass,” said M. Durai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

Apart from easing traffic flow on Brooke Bond Road, the new arrangement is expected to reduce congestion on Avinashi Road flyover too. However, any prolonged shower will lead to inundation of water in the underpass obstructing traffic flow.

Traffic (West) Inspector K.V. Sathasivem said that flex boards had been placed on Brooke Bond Road before the start of underpass to help passengers with the new traffic arrangements. Also, a traffic constable is posted on duty at the underpass to control the vehicular movement.
