Two remanded in custody

Two persons were remanded on Sunday in connection with the murder of a shepherd whose body was found charred in a barren land near Kangeyampalayam on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Muthupandi (22) of Aruppukottai and Pandyan (60) of Palani, both co-workers of the deceased, Arulraj (18), who hailed from Senrampalayam near Kinathukkadavu.

The three persons were taking care of nearly 300 goats belonged to Ayyasamy at Kalangal. The police said the murder took place in a drunken brawl on Wednesday night. Muthupandi allegedly pushed down Arulraj when the latter reportedly abused Pandyan. Arulraj suffered a head injury and died. Muthupandi and Pandyan burnt the body.

Textile shop gutted

A textile shop at Madukkarai Market was gutted on Sunday. The police said that the shop, belonged to Mahaveer Prasad, a native of Rajasthan, was damaged in the fire around 2 a.m. Fire extinguishing units rushed to the spot and put out the flames.
