Two more police personnel wanted in connection with the highway robbery in the outskirts of the city on August 25 were questioned on Thursday. They were part of a gang of eight involved in the incident.

Inspector Muthukumar attached to the K. Paramathi Police Station in Karur district was secured by the police on Tuesday.

Sub-Inspector Saravanan attached to the Kulithalai Police Station in Karur district, and Head Constable Dharmendra attached to the K. Paramathi Police Station in Karur district were picked up on Thursday.

They did not cooperate with the investigation when they were quizzed at a place at Vedapatti near Coimbatore for hours, a senior police officer said.

A. Sudheer (36) of Guruvayur, P. Subash (42) of Thrissur, and Shafiq (30) of Malappuram who were earlier secured in connection with the case were produced before a court. A few lakh rupees in cash was recovered from them.

The police said that the prime accused ‘Kodali’ Sridhar (55), and his son Arun Sridhar (32), of Kerala were yet to be arrested.

The police said that the father and son were involved in similar incidents of waylaying and taking away unaccounted money and have cases against them in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.

The Tirupur district police have detained two Head Constables from Karur district and were being questioned in connection with the car hijacking at Avinashi in June.

The police sources indicated that they have been taken for questioning after information received from some other policemen arrested in another case.

During June, a car carrying cancer medicines worth Rs 2 lakh from Avinashi was hijacked.

The vehicle was later abandoned in Karur district. Interestingly, the medicines were intact in that vehicle.

The police sources later told that the hijackers by mistake took away the car instead of another that was carrying hawala money. Both the vehicles were having almost similar registration numbers.
