Two migrant labourers from Jharkhand were arrested by the Mettupalayam Police on Saturday on the charges of murdering M. Sureshkumar (45), a banana leaf trader from Manis Colony at Vachinampalayam near Sirumugai, on August 9.

According to the police, the accused were Nandalal Hemdram (22) and Suthirkerai (19) from West Singhbhum District in Jharkhand. They worked in a textile unit at Jadayampalayam near Sirumugai over the last seven months.

The police said that a few days ago the duo borrowed the victim’s two-wheeler and the vehicle got damaged in an accident.

When Sureshkumar asked them to bear the repair expenses, the duo allegedly teased his wife.

On August 9, they took Sureshkumar for a drink and the next day he was found dead.

A footage recorded in CCTV in the locality helped the police to nab the accused. Sirumugai Police registered a case and was on the lookout for the accused.

On Saturday, supervisor of the textile unit where the accused were working handed over the two men to the police.

Nandalal was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison and Suthirkerai in the Borstal Home at Pollachi.
