The District Rural Police have arrested two persons on charges of illegal sand mining and smuggling red sand. Two trucks containing a total of seven units of red sand have been seized.
According to the police, the trucks were intercepted during a vehicle check conducted by the district police at Pannimadai on Friday.
The arrested were M. Rakul (22) and D. Santhosh Kumar (20), both from Chinna Thadagam in Coimbatore district.
Based on the information provided by them, the police are looking for P. Subramaniam also from Chinna Thadagam, who is suspected to be the owner of trucks. The sand was mined at Thagadam area.
The Thudiyalur Police have registered a case and invoked Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code read with Tamil Nadu Mines and Minerals Development Regulation Act 1957 read with 36(a)(i) of Tamil Nadu Mines and Minerals Concession Rules.
Rakul and Santhosh Kumar have been remanded in custody.

Goondas ActThe District Rural Police have detained two persons under the Goondas Act. The orders were served on T. Chellaiya (53) of Venkittapuram and K. Murali (54) of Kanuvai on Friday.
Both of them were facing several cases including illegal smuggling of sand. They were presently lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Jewellery stolenA woman was relieved of her five sovereign gold chain by motorcycle-borne men on Friday.
According to the police, the incident occurred when P. Kaliathan (58) was walking near her house at Thudiyalur. In another incident, a two sovereign gold chain was stolen from a house at P.N. Palayam.

The District Rural Police have arrested K. Senthil Kumar (40) of Thudiyalur on charges of assaulting his wife. According to the police, Senthil Kumar allegedly assaulted his wife with a wooden log in front of their house on Friday .
She underwent treatment at a private hospital.
Based on her complaint, the Thudiyalur Police registered a case on Friday and invoked Sections 294(b)(uttering obscene words in public places), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (i)(criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code along with various provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act.
