True education should bring a holistic improvement, inculcate positive thinking and right orientation of mind, Dr. K. Muthuchelian, Vice-Chancellor. Periyar University said here on Friday.
In his convocation address at the Government Arts College for Women in Krishnagiri, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the spirit of patriotism, moral values and ethical concerns be instilled in the minds of every educated human being, as it is essential for the proper growth of the individual and well being of the society at large.
He said ``education is worthwhile only when it brings with it an upliftment and reinforcement of the human spirit’’.
Conferring a degree to oneself is not the culmination of the education process, it is the end of the beginning. It’s only a licence for continue higher education.
Education acquired through an institution is only a miniscule, the rest of it comes from parents, society, working places and so on. Hence, every educated youth should realize the real life situations, if so there is no need to impart values of life to them, he asserted.
The need of the hour is unwavering zeal to conquer new frontiers and achieve newer things to cope with the changing science and technologies, trade and commerce.
Due to the advent of technology and communication, approaching knowledge and making it is possible in many dimensions.
He called up on the graduating students to serve the poor and deprived with the available resources, as it will be the crowning glory of education and the real education received from the college level.
Triangles such as access, equality and quality in higher education to all sections of the society alone will create real development in the society.
The central and state governments are allocating more funds for the growth of the higher education. Due to this reason, as many as five universities and three hundred colleges are opened every year throughout the nation Dr. Muthuchelian adds.
In her welcome address, P. Rasammal, Principal In charge read out the academic report of the college.
As many as 248 undergraduate students who had passed out from the college during May 2009 received degree certificates from the Vice-Chancellor at the Convocation function.
