The lure of information technology and engineering seems to be slowly but surely fading in recent years. And, medicine seems to be the ‘in-thing’ this year.
For, all the five toppers in the Tamil category and the lone topper in non-Tamil category in the Class X public examinations this year in Coimbatore say they will opt biology group in Plus One with a view to aim for M.B.B.S.
S. Poojitha of G.R.D. of Matriculation Higher Secondary School, who secured 498 with centum in all subjects except the two languages, says her ambition is to become a doctor, despite the years of hard work involved. “I want to become a cardio-thoracic surgeon. That is my goal.”
E. Brindha Hashini of Vivek Vidyalaya MHSS at Kinathukadavu, who scored 498, says she is not going to be content even with just becoming a doctor. For her long term goals lie in civil service. “I want to become an IAS officer and serve the country. Even if I get MBBS seat, I will still try for the Union Public Service Commission,” she adds.
S.V. Vijayamoorthy of G.R.G. MHSS, who scored 500 out of 500 to emerge among the State toppers in the non-Tamil category, says medicine was his only choice. “I am happy my performance in Class X is taking me one step closer to my dream,” he adds. He had French as second language.
For D. Haritha of Vivek Vidyalayam MHSS and MPS Shreyaa of G. Ramaswamy Naidu MHSS (both 498 marks), becoming a doctor is a means to serve the weaker sections of the society. R. Keerthana (498 marks) of Sri Lathangi VM MHSS, also voiced similar views.
Another thing all toppers had in common was none of them went for any tuition.
