The Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement (TNTM) has said it will go ahead with its plan of tapping and selling toddy tomorrow in Arachalur, 20 km from Erode.

“Toddy is not injurious to health, as it contains minimum intoxication and also it is of the cheap variety,” TNTM President C Nallasamy told reporters.

The TNTM had on December 31 last year announced its intention to tap and sell toddy in Arachalur in protest against the ban on sale of the product, imposed by the State government 34 years ago.

Mr. Nallasamy questioned why the State government refused to lift the ban on toddy even while allowing the sale of the highly intoxicated IMFL varieties in Tamilnadu.
