Tirupur North police station violence: bail for 16 law students

September 14, 2013 10:15 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:16 pm IST - Tirupur:

The Principal District and Sessions Court here on Friday granted bail to 16 of the 25 law students from Government Law College, Coimbatore, who were arrested for violence on Tirupur North police station premises on September 6.

The lawyers who appeared for the students withdrew the bail application of nine students soon after the bail plea for all the students came up for hearing.

S. Ponram, one of the advocates who appeared for the students, told The Hindu that a fresh bail application would be moved for the remaining nine students soon.

The prosecution did not object to giving bail for the 16 students — who eventually were granted bail — but was opposed to the bail for the remaining nine students because of their “more involvement” in the incident.

It should be noted that a magistrate court here on Tuesday dismissed the bail application of all the 25 students citing the gravity and nature by which the accused students forcibly tried to enter the police station.
