Three-tier security has been provided at the Government College of Technology where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) brought from all the polling booths in the corporation limits have been kept and to prevent any untoward incident during counting of votes to elect the Mayor. Over 100 police personnel have been deployed at the counting centre and strong rooms.

“ Ten CCTVs have been installed on the premises for round-the-clock surveillance. Two cameras have been fixed close to each of the five strong rooms where EVMs brought from the five zones in the corporation will be guarded,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Pravesh Kumar said.

He added that a control room with four monitors has been set up on the college premises for monitoring the movement of persons close to the strong rooms.

About the three-tier security arrangements, Mr. Pravesh Kumar said that the inner circle close to the strong room is guarded by Armed Reserve personnel, followed by the middle row that comprises Tamil Nadu Special Police and Coimbatore City Police.

“The city police will guard the outer periphery. The entire security arrangements in the counting centre will be monitored by an official in the rank of Additional Commissioner of Police and two Assistant Commissioners,” he said. The DC added that elaborate security arrangements with additional police force has been deployed at the counting centre, the areas in and around the college premises and across the city to avoid untoward incidents when the strong rooms will be opened for counting votes on Monday.
