Three women go missing

Ukkadam police have registered a case to probe into the disappearance of three women and a child. The police said that Mythili, 22, her son Santhoshkumar, 3, and two of their neighbours – Deepika, 24, and Sabeetha, 21, - went missing on Friday. The incident came to light after Mythili’s husband Murali returned home and found the mother-son duo missing. Murali’s attemps to reach her on the mobile also provided futile.

Driver arrested

Valparai police have arrested driver Durai, 20, of Akkamalai Estate on charges of rash and negligent driving. The police said that on Saturday, Durai, in an inebriated condition, had driven a multi-utility vehicle in a rash manner. Students of a private school were the passengers. Following complaints from the public, the police arrested him. A case has been registered in this connection.

Three injured

Three workers of a private farm near Annur were injured when a cylinder at their quarters exploded on Saturday evening.

The police had identified the injured as Narayanan, 59, of Uthamapalayam, Mylsamy, 50, of Punjai Puliampatti, and Selvam, 40, of Usilampatti.

The explosion occurred when Narayanan attempted to light the stove. All three are under treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The Annur police have registered a case in this connection.

Ends life

Thayammal (65) of Periyanaickenpalayam committed suicide at her residence on Saturday.

The police said that the woman, who was sick for a while, resorted to the extreme step by consuming poison. A case has been registered in this connection.

Women petition police

Three women, whose husbands had been kidnapped, along with their relatives petitioned the city police on Sunday saying that the police trace the three.

The women said that a few days ago, around six men posing as police personnel picked up Mariselvan, 25, of Pappampatti, and his neighbours Sudalai, 30, and Manikandan, 23, saying that their presence was required in a case.

The six also took away Rs. 90,000 from Mariselvan’s house. When the wives of the three went to the Sulur Police Station, the police said that they had not picked up the three men.

The women and their relatives want the three to be traced at the earliest.

Six held

During a routine inspection the Alandurai police conducted on Saturday, they arrested Ramamoorthy, 52, Anandan and Devaraj, 50, on charges of selling liquor without permit. In a similar drive the Mettupalayam police arrested Senthil, 33, Raja, 25, and Durai, 37. The police recovered more than 30 bottles.
