While Coimbatore Corporation and the Highways Department being blamed for not taking action against the contractor who flaunted norms and erected wooden structures on Avinashi Road for MGR centenary fete, including the one at CMC junction that allegedly led to the fatal accident of NRI software engineer K. Raghupathy, Police on Wednesday said they have not received any complaint regarding the incident.

Police Commissioner K. Periaiah on Wednesday said that no complaint has been given by the civic body seeking action on the 'violators'. Apart from the arrest of the driver of the lorry that claimed to have ran over Raghupathy, the police have not taken any legal action in the case as it is in the sub judice of the Madras High Court, said Mr. Periaiah. According to him, police permission was required for the conduct of the public meeting alone.

He said that no legal action was taken against the two youth who were questioned by the police on Tuesday for writing the graffiti ‘Who Killed Ragu?’ at the accident spot, which went viral on social media.

The duo, a designer and an employee of a private firm, were reportedly questioned for the intention behind the act.

In his lengthy post titled We Did! on medium.com, designer Varun Manoharan wrote: “Who is responsible for the sorrowful passage of Ragupathy Kandasamy last Saturday? Everyone seems to have a predictable textbook reaction to such a tragedy. Mostly pointing fingers at others. But a Life has been lost. And for what reason? Display of power? The itch for publicity? Negligence of authorities? Lack of empathy? The absence of common sense? Misuse of tax money? It could be anything. But I believe that the most critical one is Failure to Question!”.

Though checked with the police on previous instances of accidents due to hoardings and illegal structures obstructing road, a categorised data of that sort was not available.
