Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah on Saturday called for more research to control and prevent obesity.
Addressing the 5th international conference and live workshop on bariatric surgery organised by Gem Hospitals here on Saturday, he said that medical professionals must create awareness on the importance of physical exercises. Bariatric surgery included a variety of procedures performed on obese people to achieve weight loss.
Modifications in lifestyle were needed to tackle obesity. Disciplined dietary habits, avoidance of high calorie junk food, and yoga were also needed, he added.
C. Palanivelu, chairman of GEM Hospitals, said that doctors and medical institutions must make sure that bariatric surgery became affordable to the common man also. B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Kendra, spoke.
An International Excellence Forum of International Excellence Federation and a Pan Asian Metabolic Conclave were also held.
