April 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:57 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The list of nominees announced by the AIADMK on Monday for the coming elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has more new faces, and a lot of surprises as far as Coimbatore is concerned. Many party seniors who were seen as front runners in the race for the ticket could not find a place in the list.

The two MLAs who found a place in the list were O.K. Chinnaraj for the Mettuppalayam Assembly constituency and V.C. Arukutty for the Kavundampalayam Assembly constituency. Seven other MLAs from the district will not be contesting again.

Party’s rural district secretary and Minister S.P. Velumani is being fielded once again from his home turf Thondamuthur Assembly constituency and the party’s urban district secretary who was appointed recently, P.R.G. Arunkumar, is entering the fray from Coimbatore North. Former Minister S.M. Velusamy, and present Mayor P. Rajkumar did not get a ticket.

The Coimbatore North, Coimbatore South, Singanallur, Kinathukkadavu, and Valparai (R) have gone to new faces.

Kasthuri Vasu, the lone woman nominee, is entering the fray from Valparai (R) constituency.

She had won a case relating to a dispute regarding her community. Deputy Speaker in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman is being fielded again from Pollachi. In Tirupur, Minister M.S.M. Anandan has not been given a seat. He was dropped from the cabinet once, and was inducted again.
