The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members came out to the streets on Tuesday to stage a demonstration against the move to disinvest five per cent shares of Neyveli Lignite Corporation.

They also criticised the Union Government for not accepting the Tamil Nadu government’s offer to buy the NLC stakes through government bodies.

M. Shanmugam, a senior AIADMK leader and district pachayat chairman, said the primary opinion of the party was of the opinion that the disinvestment should not have been made.

“If at all going ahead with selling of the stakes, the Centre should allow the state government bodies like Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation,” he said.

Senior AIADMK functionaries took part in the agitation.
