Around 100 students from the SSVM World School at Singanallur, here, took part in the International Women’s Day celebrations organised on Saturday by The Hindu and SSVM Group of Institutions.
To commemorate the day, the students distributed pamphlets on women rights and empowerment to women commuters at four major traffic junctions in the city, including the Lakshmi Mills and R.S. Puram. The students also held placards containing messages on women empowerment.
Manimekalai Mohan, managing trustee of the SSVM Institutions, who inaugurated the event, said that women have now made their presence felt in all fields ranging from leadership, sports, arts, business, science, engineering and technology. She said that women should pay tribute to those who helped pave the way. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was ‘inspiring change.’
