SSA provides assistive devices to differently abled children

In a third and last phase, 24 children who had undergone orthopaedic corrective surgery, were provided with assistive devices under the auspices of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Coimbatore on Monday.

SSA had organised surgery for 148 children in the age group of six and 14 years in 2011 as part of the Inclusive Education for Differently Abled component.

These children were provided with assistive devices in four phases, the last of which was held on Monday.

District Collector M. Karunagaran handed over the devices to the parents of the children in the presence of SSA officials at the Collectorate.

The devices included, two walkers, 12 bilateral ankle foot orthosis, six bilateral knee ankle foot orthosis, and four night splints.

SSA officials said that the children who were provided with the devices would be monitored for follow-up therapy and exercises.
