The State Government has appointed J. Sankara Narayanan as a Special Public Prosecutor to represent the prosecuting agency in the ongoing trial into the murder of siblings.
It may be recalled that on October 29 last year, siblings - children of a textile merchant - were abducted by a private van driver.
The girl was sexually abused and the boy was physically drowned in a PAP canal. The body was recovered on October 30 and on November 1 the police arrested Mohanraj alias Mohanakrishnan (27), the driver, and his associate Manoharan.
In connection with the case, police took custody of the accused on November 8 and while being taken to the scene of crime to record their statements, Mohanraj was shot dead by the police in an “encounter”, when the accused reportedly made an attempt to escape.
Charge sheet in the case was filed and the trial has begun and witnesses have started deposing in the case and charges against the accused killed in the encounter abate while the trial continues against the second accused Manoharan. The prosecution will be represented by Mr. Sankara Narayanan.
