The release could not have been better timed. Nallamuthu Gounder Mahalingam College, Pollachi, has come up with a special book on the history and culture of Kongu, titled ‘Valamaar Kongu – History and Culture'.
A release from the College says N. Mahalingam, Patron of the College, constituted a committee under B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, College president, to publish a book to highlight the pride, culture and history of the Kongu Region.
Tamil scholars Sirpi Balasubramanian and Amudhan were made editors of the book in which 51 eminent scholars had contributed under seven categories. The topics: Classical Tamil Language, Kongu's History, Kongu's Literature, Religions in Kongu, Arts and Culture of Kongu, Education and Economy of Kongu and Small Stories of Kongu region.
The essays have been penned by U.Ve. Swaminatha Iyer, Ki.Va. Jagannathan, Periasamy Thooran, N. Mahalingam, V.C. Kulandaiswamy, Kavignar Tamilnaadan, R. Krishnamoorthy, S. Rasu and M. Sivakumar, among others.
The release says the book contains articles on ‘Kongu in Sangam Age', ‘Forts of Kongu', ‘Kings of Kongu', ‘Literature in Kongu', ‘Siddhars of Kongu', etc.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has appreciated the publication of the book and his message has been included. The Conference theme song and an explanatory note on the logo have also been included.
The highlight of the publication of the book is that the Tamil Nadu Government has ordered the inclusion of the book in the official kit to be given to delegates. It is available at a few ABT branches, Sakthi Finance and Sakthi Sugars offices and also the College premises.
