The civic body has proposed to construct a skywalk in Gandhipuram.

According to sources, the sky walk that will come up under the Smart Cities programme, will help pedestrians move from the mofussil bus stand west of Dr. Nanjappa Road to the town bus stand on the east of the road and from there to the SETC Bus Stand, near V.K.K. Menon Road.

The move to have a sky walk comes as the Gandhipuram flyover work is nearing completion on Dr. Nanjappa Road stretch and more than a year after the Corporation removed the old, iron foot-over bridge.

The source said that the objective was to help the pedestrians and commuters move easily from one bus stand to another and from one side of the arterial road to another.

And, more importantly, ensure free flow of traffic on the stretch.

The Corporation had managed to obtain a design from an architect to discuss the basics.

It would have either escalators or elevators and the stretch over roads would be moving walkaways.

The finer details were under discussion and depending on the space availability on the ground, the Corporation would go in for either escalator or elevator.

After the design was finalised, would the detailed project report preparation start and only thereafter would the Corporation be able to arrive at a cost, they added.
