Six persons were killed and 11 others sustained injuries in three different accidents reported in Erode district on Sunday.
Police sources said Jeyamani (52), a resident of Arunachala Thevar Colony, and his wife Vasantha (46) were killed and six of their family members sustained injuries when a lorry collided with the car in which they were travelling near Perundurai.
Jeyamani and his family members were returning home after visiting Chennai, when the accident took place.
Vasantha died on the spot. Jeyamani and six of his family members sustained injuries and were admitted to Perundurai government medical college hospital. Jeyamani succumbed to wounds at the hospital.
In another accident, Marichamy (38), a resident of Nallampatti village, and his friend Velan (33) were killed on the spot, when a private bus hit their motorcycle.
Police said Velan was working as a conductor in the State Transport Corporation. The two were on their way to Perundurai when the accident took place. Perundurai police registered a case.
At Ammapet, two members of a family were killed when the car in which they were travelling lost control and hit a building wall.
Police said Ravikumar (46), a resident of Komarapalayam, and six members of his family were returning home after spending a day in Hogenakkal. Ravikumar was at the wheel when the accident took place.
Ravikumar and his family members sustained injuries and were admitted to Bhavani Government Hospital. Ravikumar and his brother's son Vignesh (7) were referred to a private hospital in Erode for further treatment as the two had sustained serious injuries in the accident. But the two succumbed to wounds at the hospital. Ammapet police registered a case.
