The police have arrested six persons on charges of stealing, and attempting to sell kalasam found atop Hindu temple towers. The police said that during a routine vehicle checking on Monday morning at Pappanaickenpalayam, they found six persons, who during preliminary inquiries gave contradictory and unsatisfactory answers about their presence there.

When the police checked their car, they found six kalasam inside. The police took them to the Race Course Police Station for further inquiries. It came to light that the gang had stolen the kalasam to be sold to gullible people saying that they contained iridium, which when stored in house brought in fortune.

The arrested were: P. Ganapathy, 20, and K. Senthilkumar, 38, of Tiruchi; C. Palanisamy, 29, S. Anbumani, 33, and S. Muthusamy, 31, of Dindigul; and P. Abid Ali of Karur.

The accused told the police that they had planned to sell the kalasam for Rs. 5 lakh.
