Nehru Institute of Technology recently conducted its second graduation day. A release said that A.K. Raghunathan, Commissioner, Central Excise, delivered the graduation day address. Ilangovan, Manager, Group Risk Operations, National Bank of Kuwait, was the guest of honour. As many as 213 students received their degree certificates. P. Krishnakumar, Secretary and CEO, presented medals to university rank holders. Mr. Raghunathan told the students that securing a degree was not the end but a beginning. They must hone their skills if they wanted to land on a job they dreamed about. It was not subject-oriented skills but also people-oriented skills.
N.G.M. College recently conducted a graduation day for those who were students between 2009 and 2012.

Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College, Pollachi, in association with Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, would soon conduct eye camps in 62 villages in the college’s neighbourhood with the aim of creating a cataract-free zone. A release said that the inauguration of the first of the many camps was held recently. Rashmi Siddharth Jagade, Sub Collector, Pollachi, inaugurated the camp. V. Narendran, Chief Medical Officer, Aravind Eye Hospital, was also present. In the first phase, the college and the hospital would conduct the camp in 10 villages. On the day of inauguration, an eye camp was held in Eripatti in Pollachi Taluk.

R. Vinoth, research scholar, Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, won the young scientist award 2014 for his contribution to plant breeding and genetics, which was part of his Ph.D. thesis. Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology celebrated the International Women’s Day by organising a multi-event sports contest. A release said that in ‘Power Puff Girls 2014’, the women students had an opportunity to test their physical and mental endurance. Nearly 175 students competed in kayaking, horse riding, motorcycle riding, mini cycling marathon, marathon, swimming and skipping and running events.
SNS College of Engineering recently organised an inter-collegiate cultural festival, ‘Usav ‘14’.
