Ten children who dropped out of schools in the last academic year or before that will return to schools.
Ensuring their return to classrooms was the drive the volunteers of Education for All (Sarva Siksha Abiyan) scheme conducted in the city on Monday.
“A team of 13 persons went to Kallukuzhi, near Sungam, to look for such children,” said G. Vasanthi, Supervisor, City Block, SSA.
This was part of an annual drive the staff and volunteers undertook every year to identify not only school dropouts but also those who had never been enrolled in schools and differently abled. Their target was to identify children over six years old.
The identified children would be made to undergo either a non-residential bridge course or residential bridge course before being enrolled in regular schools.
The 10 children must have dropped out of schools during the last academic year as this was an annual exercise, she said. The volunteers carry out the task armed with a list of absentee and irregular children from the neighbourhood school.
They would move over to different parts of the city in the next few days to ensure that no child is left out school. The exercise would go on till April 30.
