As many as 51 activists of the Samathuva Munnani were removed by the police on Friday when they attempted to install the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in front of the District Sessions Court complex.

The activists pointed out that the Corporation council passed a resolution on September 24, 2007 giving no objection for installing a statue of Ambedkar either in front of the District Sessions Court Complex or in front of Coimbatore South taluk office or near the Power House in Sivanananda Colony.

Since then attempts by the Munnani to install the statue faced obstacles.

Consecutively on December 6 for the last three years, there had been agitations, they said.

When the activists tried to come in a procession for installing the statue, police removed them.
