Salem Corporation to re-lay roads dug up for UGD works

Works to be carried out at an outlay of ₹74.33 crore in all the four zones

The Salem Corporation will take up works to re-lay roads in areas where underground drainage works had been completed, after the end of north-east monsoon season, said R. Sadheesh, Corporation Commissioner.

Speaking at a meeting of the officials of Tangedco, BSNL, private communication firms at the corporation premises on Friday evening, Mr. Sadheesh said the Corporation would undertake 268 road works covering 120.31 km in all the four zones at an outlay of ₹74.33 crore.

He said the Corporation will take up 45 road works covering 26.05 km in Suramangalam zone at an outlay of ₹15.97 crore; 111 road works covering 58.66 km in Hasthampatti zone at an outlay of ₹36.30 crore; 56 road works covering 15.42 km in Ammapettai zone at an outlay of ₹8.25 crore; 56 roads works covering 20.17 km in Kondalampatti zone at an outlay of ₹13.81 crores.

Mr. Sadheesh said the Tangedco, BSNL and the private communication concerns should complete the works of laying cable, and other maintenance works before the commencement of the road re-laying works. No cable laying work, or other maintenance works should be undertaken after the roads were re-laid.

The residents of the city who want fresh drinking water connections and underground drainage connections should remit the charges and get the connections immediately.

The Corporation will not give drinking water connection and the UGD connection after the completion of the road re-laying works, he said. The telecommunication concerns should not lay cables blocking the flow of water in the channels at the culverts. The concerns should lay cables without affecting the flow of water as per the suggestion of the corporation authorities, Mr. Sadheesh added.

A.Asokan and G. Kamaraj, both executive engineers of the Corporation, P. Pushpam, N. Gunavathi and A. Mouleeswaran, executive engineers of the Tangedco, senior officials of the BSNL and others participated in the meeting.
