Rs. 1.54 lakh stolen from United India Insurance Company

An amount of Rs. 1.54 lakh was found to be missing from United India Insurance Company office here on Tuesday.

The divisional manager of the firm, R. Nithyanandhan (58), said that he had kept the money in a box on Monday.

On returning to office on Tuesday he saw the front lock of their office broken open, and the money missing from the box.

Finger print experts could not lift any samples from the crime scene.

A case has been registered under sections 457 (housebreaking by night in order to commit an offence) and 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.

In another incident Rs. 1.04 lakh was stolen from a fancy store in front of VLB College at Kuniyamuthur.

The police said that K. Mahesh (39), shop owner, had went out to purchase materials on Tuesday evening. His mother Nirmala was manning the shop.

The money might have been stolen between 7pm and 8pm. A case was registered under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.

Man electrocuted

R. Balaji (40) of Vadachithur in Pollachi taluk was electrocuted when he reportedly tried to connect a wire from his house to the electric post on Tuesday.
