Mettupalayam Police have registered two cases based on complaints by councillors of the Mettupalayam Municipality. According to sources, the police registered a case under the Tamil Nadu Public Properties (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act based on a complaint from the Municipal Chairman D. Satheesh Kumar, who had said that when the Council took up for discussion the subject related to advertisements in television sets fixed inside the Mettupalayam bus stand, AIADMK Councillor M.N. Balasubramaniam wanted the resolution cancelled.

Independent Councillor I. Murugesan, PMK Councillor Moorthy and DMK Councillor Mohammed Younis broke name boards, microphones, and a few other articles.

The sources said that the resolution was about increasing the tariff for taking up the contract for advertising in the bus stand television sets and awarding the contact to a person who had quoted Rs. 1.29 lakh a year, the highest. But a few councillors wanted the resolution to be suspended and tender floated against so as to facilitate a person whose contract term was to expire.

Municipal Chairman Mr. Kumar had said that it was not possible to do so as the incumbent contractor had quoted around Rs. 1 lakh, which was at Rs. 29,000 less than the highest bidder and doing so would result in the civic body suffering loss.

The sources pointed out that the incumbent contractor was a ruling party office bearer and brother of a Councillor.

Municipal Vice Chairperson had lodged a complaint against DMDK Councillors Subramani and Murali, alleging that the microphones they hurled had hit her, she had suffered injuries on the right hand and her sari was torn. The police had registered a case.
