Role of students in conservation stressed

The cause of conservation can be espoused best by sensitising students, said the Project Director, Hill Area Development Programme (HADP), Srinivas R. Reddy here on Thursday.

Participating as the chief guest in the valedictory function of the Wildlife Week celebrations organised by the Nilgiri Wildlife and Environment Association (NWEA) and the forest department here on Thursday, he said that students should be used as ambassadors of nature.

All sections of the society should participate in the wildlife week celebrations and help create awareness about the role of wild animals in maintaining the ecological balance. The District Forest Officer, the Nilgiris (South), C. Badrasamy also spoke.

The vice-president, NWEA, S. Kuppuraja welcomed the gathering.

Secretary of the association D. Lawrence proposed a vote of thanks.

Distribution of prizes to students, who had excelled in various competitions organized as part of the celebrations marked the occasion.
