Robbery: four persons surrender in court

Even as the city police formed special teams to nab the culprits, four persons surrendered before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Bangalore.

Four persons, wanted in a robbery in Selvapuram on July 4, have surrendered in a Bangalore court. According to the Coimbatore police, they were looking for a gang that robbed jewellers S. Venkateswaran, 38, and S. Saravanan at their office in Ashok Nagar. The members of the gang, knocked on the office-cum-house door late on July 4. After gaining entry, they robbed them of jewellery weighing 570 gm, worth Rs. 17 lakh.

Even as the city police formed special teams to nab the culprits, four persons surrendered before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Bangalore.

The police said that one of the surrendered accused was Naveen, 25, who had worked with Mr. Venkateswaran a few years ago.

A city police team was on its way to Bangalore to bring them to the city.

Arrested

Ramanathapuram police have arrested K. Ramachandran, 28, of Arunachalam Thevar Colony on charges of selling obscene video clips to students.

The police said that following information that students were being sold such clips, they arrested Ramachandran from near his residence and also seized his mobile phone. A case has been registered in this connection.

Case registered

Thudiyalur police have registered a theft case following a complaint that an unidentified woman had robbed nine-sovereign jewellery belonging to the bridegroom at a wedding, held a few days ago.

The police said that the complainants suspect that a woman who was seen moving around the wedding hall, posing as bride’s relative, could have lifted the jewellery.

Youth killed

Sekar alias Vidyasagar, 28, a resident of Negamam, who sustained injuries in an accident on July 17 succumbed to injuries at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning.

The accident took place on July 17 when he was riding a motorcycle on the Negamam-Pollachi Road.

Youth arrested

Sulur police have arrested Parvez, 21, a native of Uttar Pradesh, on charges of attempting to burgle a grocery shop at Irugur Pirivu.

The police said that Parvez, along with two of his friends, went to a tile-roofed shop at the Pirivu.

While his friends waited outside, Parvez climbed on the roof to remove the tiles. Blessy, who was sleeping inside the shop, alerted her husband Christopher, who was also inside the shop.

The couple waited till Parvez landed on the floor. They then caught him and raised an alarm to alert their neighbours.

Meanwhile, learning that their friend had been caught, the two who were standing outside fled the scene.

Christopher’s neighbours tied Parvez to a pole and informed the police, who arrested him.

The police said that the youth and his friends were working in a factory at A.G. Pudur and occasionally engaged in such thefts. Further investigation is on.
