It is learnt that Joseph Jaisingh of Rupa Nagar in Ramanathapuram and his friend Vinodh had gone to see a land in Marichettipathy for purchasing it. After seeing the land, the two came in a car and parked it near the Madukkarai Sub-Registrar Office for having a cup of tea. The two left a suitcase containing cash in the car.
At this juncture, four persons came on two motorcycles. While two of them kept the bikes in a state of readiness to escape, the other two approached the car. One of them broke the windscreen and lifted the suitcase and ran towards the motorcycle.
On seeing the public chasing them, one of the gang members tried to speed up the motorcycle by accelerating it. This resulted in both of them falling down. One of the two got up and jumped onto a moving motorcycle and left. Meanwhile, the public and the police caught hold of Arya (24) of Mannadi in Chennai. The other three have been identified as Raju, Subbu Rao and Mahesh, all hailing from Chennai.
