Residents to petition against pace of storm water drain work

August 16, 2011 09:13 am | Updated 09:13 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Representatives of various residents' welfare associations, who met in the city on Sunday to discuss the progress of the storm water drain work, have decided to petition the Corporation Commissioner and also Members of the Legislative Assembly.

R. Raveendran, Honorary Secretary, said the 50-odd people who participated in the meeting expressed dissatisfaction with the manner the Coimbatore Corporation had executed the project, which was being implemented across the city.

The elevation of the culverts was so varied that in a few places road users felt as if they were climbing a hill.

In a few places, the elevation was a few inches and in others it was around 20 inches. How could the Corporation permit such an elevation, he asked and added that motorists had met with accidents because of the elevation of the culverts.

The participants of the meeting had decided to invite the Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy to the places where the works were for him to take a decision. They had also decided to make a representation to the MLAs.
