R. Parthasarathy (29), a research scholar at Bharathiar University, fell to his death from the terrace of a building in Kalveerampalayam on Sunday. The Vadavalli police, who have registered a case, said that he was under the influence of alcohol.
The police said that around 1.30 a.m., Parthasarathy did not go to his house in Vijay Nagar but to a neighbour’s. He went to the terrace and his entry there had disturbed the occupant of the house, Abu Thahir, who got up from sleep to find out the source of the noise.
There, Mr. Thahir had seen a man jump from the terrace. He then rushed to the ground floor to see a man lying unconscious, the police said and added that he then called an ambulance that rushed the injured man to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The doctors there declared him dead on arrival.
Mr. Thahir then informed the police, who could not immediately establish the identity of the deceased. Only by 11 a.m. Sunday, they said that the man dead was Parthasarathy, he was a research scholar in the Economics Department and that he was from Sankarankoil. They obtained the help of Parthasarathy’s friends, who, after hearing the news, rushed to the Hospital.
Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural, M. Sudhakar, said that there was no foul play whatsoever.
Based on a complaint from Mr. Thahir, the police had registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances.
