A relay fast got underway opposite the Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) at Indunagar near here on Tuesday. Organised under the aegis of various unions in the company the fast was to draw the attention of the government on the plight of its employees and their long standing demands.

L.Sevanan, president, INTUC, T.Felix, secretary, ATP, R.Moses Manoharan, general secretary, CITU and Solomon Mahaveerar, general secretary, LPF, participated.

They said the government should extend a helping hand to the ailing company and concerted efforts should be made by all concerned to revive it. The payment of Rs. 3,000 as interim relief should be continued and the practice of deducting the sum from employees who are retiring and those opting for voluntary retirement should be stopped. A wage hike should be announced without delay. They said that if their demands were not met they would resort to a series of agitations.
