The offices of the District Social Welfare Officer and District Child Protection Officer jointly carried out a campaign in the city on Tuesday to create awareness among the people, on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and also to encourage people to fight against dowry.

District Social Welfare Officer P. Nagaprabha said relatives of minor girls who became victims of sexual assaults, should come forward to register the case so as to get the accused punished.

Harassment

“Besides this, the girl children should be educated to speak out when they face sexual harassment,” she added.

The rally, that was taken out by students, conducted as part of the campaign, disseminated messages against dowry system.

“The parents of the bride should not succumb to the demands for dowry. Instead, they should display courage to bring the issue before the police or other officials concerned,” official sources said.
