Demonstrations and agitations demanding reconstruction of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya and construction of Ram temple at the disputed site marked the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary across the city on Saturday.

Members of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam and Manithaneya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam staged protests in the city.

Several organisations also staged protests without permission.

Hundreds of members of the Tamil Nadu Ramar Sena were arrested at the Coimbatore Railway when they attempted to stage a rail roko.

Members of the Hindu Makkal Katchi and Vivekanandar Makkal Iyakkam were arrested when they were proceeding to the Coimbatore International Airport.

Members of Hindu Munnani, members of the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath and 50 members of the Bharat Sena Hindu Makkal Munnai were also removed by the police.

Members of the Popular Front of India were also removed after they tried to stage a protest at Town Hall.

More than 2,500 police personnel and para-military forces were deployed all over the city. Additional forces were deployed at vital installations such as airport, railway stations and other places as a matter of precaution.
