Members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam staged a protest here on Sunday to condemn the alleged dismissal of more than 1,000 Tamil teachers in Kerala.

General secretary K. Ramakrishnan, who led the demonstration, alleged that the Kerala government took the decision after the people and politicians in that State were agitated over the Supreme Court’s verdict in favour of Tamil Nadu in the Mullaperiyar dam case.

“Lakhs of people from Tamil Nadu are settled in Kerala. The dismissal of the Tamil teachers, employed on a temporary basis, will deny the children of the Tamils the right to learn their mother tongue,” he said.

The party members blocked the 100 Feet Road during the protest organised close to the Coimbatore Malayali Samajam. They were removed by the police.
