The woman’s parents had preferred a complaint with the police stating that their daughter was harassed.

The Coimbatore city police have commenced a probe into the circumstances that led to the death of Gnanasoundari (32), wife of P. Muruganandam, youth wing secretary of the Bharathiya Janata Party.

Gnanasoundari, daughter of Sundarasamy of Amrita Nagar, was married to Muruganandam on November 29, 2009.

She was working as a lecturer in a college. It is learnt that the couple had no children and was under treatment.

On March 11, Gnanasoundari was found hanging in her residence in CKR Nagar on Sathyamangalam Road. The police registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The woman’s parents had preferred a complaint with the police stating that their daughter was harassed.

As the death took place within seven years of marriage, an RDO inquest was held. Based on the report, the All Women police have already registered a case of abetment of suicide and harassment of the woman against Muruganandam, and in-laws Palanisamy and Valliammal.

Further investigations are on.
