The police on Thursday slapped a fine of ₹1,000 on driver of a private bus who did not give way for an ambulance on State Bank Road, near the Collectorate.

According to police, the bus was plying with music played in high decibel levels and the driver did not hear the emergency siren of the ambulance.

The incident happened around 11.15 a.m. The ambulance was proceeding towards the Old Post Office road to reach Avinashi Road Flyover.

“The music played in the bus was of inordinate levels. The driver Sugadev (30) of Karamadai could not hear the siren of the ambulance. The bus gave way for ambulance only after Inspector of Race Course Police Station V. Selvaraj who was standing near the Collectorate intervened,” said traffic Sub-Inspector M. Periyasamy.
