Powerloom job work unit owners demand rollback of power tariff hike

April 21, 2012 10:17 am | Updated 10:17 am IST - Tirupur:

Members of Tirupur District Powerloom Job Working Unit Owners Association, from Tirupur, Avinashi, Palladam and Thekkalur clusters, observed a fast here on Friday demanding rollback of power tariff which was hiked recently.

R. Velusamy, president of the Association, said the hike had plunged the industry into despair.

“Paying at the new slab of charges means that the units need to be operated in losses as already the industry was running on wafer-thin margins pre-revision,” he pointed out.

According to him, the State Government should consider the plea of the sector favourably. “If the rates are not rolled back entirely, the units will not be paying the charges at all and will go for an indefinite strike,” he said.
